I guess if I’ve learned anything over the years about alcoholism and addiction in general it is that it has many faces.
Take, for example, a dear friend of mine who has a distinguished academic career, written textbooks and lectured worldwide.
He only drinks wine and now, in his later years, limits it to three 6-ounce glasses an evening (unless it’s a special occasion, of which there are many, and then he might expand his parameters).
He used to use drugs and drink quite a bit more but cut back for health reasons and, he would say, “to make sure it doesn’t get out-of-hand.”
