Drug Rehab Centers

Drug rehab centers are normally simply referred to as rehab is or treatment centres, largely because the rehab will have a number of wide-ranging addiction treatment programs, which are geared to help an individual who has a problem with drugs, alcohol or any other type of substance addiction.

A drug rehab center will focus on the individual, and should offer a number of therapeutic programs designed to help the person deal with the underlying emotional drives and problems that have fuelled their drug addiction and or alcoholism.

Anyone entering a drug rehab center should make sure that the rehab understands the nature of drug addiction, and in particular understands the nature of addiction to the main or primary drugs that individual has been using. This may well be in addition to a problem with alcohol, or various other substances.

A drug rehab center will normally make clear on its website that it has experience of dealing with specific drugs and drug addictions.

Drug Rehab Centers

Rehabs should offer help in relation to the majority of recognised drugs that are abused, in particular : benzodiazepines, cocaine, crack, crystal meth, Demerol, ecstasy, heroin, marijuana, methamphetamine, methadone, morphine, OxyContin, Suboxone, Valium, Vicodin, Xanax.

While the above is not a prescriptive list, it is important that the rehab has experience of helping people who have had addictions to the above drugs. This means a rehab should have staff who understand the nature of drug addiction and can hold individual through the recovery process.

A drug rehab center will employ, or should employ a wide range of typical therapeutic personnel. This should include medical doctors, nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists etc.

A drug rehab center is also likely to employ a number of practitioners that could be referred to as alternative therapists. These can include yoga teachers, Chi Gung/Tai Chi teachers, reflexology practitioners, acupuncture practitioners, art therapy practitioners, meditation practitioners.

A drug rehab center should place a significant emphasis on diet and exercise as part of the recovery process and should employ dieticians and nutritionists.

An important part of any residentialdrug rehab center is to help the individual back into their normal life and they have finished their time in treatment.

To this end, planning for the individual’s recovery after they leave rehab should be an important part of the rehab process, and the drug rehab center should employ a social worker or what is sometimes called a transitional living worker to help individual make that bridge back into their normal life once treatment is finished.
